Youth Employment Internships
Screen Printing
Have you ever wondered how a graphic t-shirt was made? Let us show you how. Our screen printing internship program offers paid training opportunities for youth ages 16-25 who have experienced, or currently are experiencing, housing instability. Interns learn a variety of vocational skills centered around the production of printed garments and digital design. They are given a hands-on experience, working in our professional production facility preparing print orders and design projects for clients throughout the Greater Seattle area.
These internships are offered year-round in conjunction with our partner agencies. For a list of these agencies and information on how to apply, contact Troy Carter at troy@sanctuaryartcenter.org
The Key Components of Our Success
All three of our our internship programs offer specific technical and vocational skills related to a particular industry. However, these skills are only one part of the experience. In addition, each program contains three core components designed to increase the overall employability of the participants.
Community Engagement
Positive engagement with the community helps youth discover a sense of self-worth and belonging. Whether it is working on t-shirt orders for a local client, providing customer service in local communities or creating an original public performance, all of our internships allow youth to interact and collaborate with members of their community.
Soft Skills of Employment
Sometimes showing up is half the battle. In our internship programs youth learn the basic skills needed for any type of employment. Skills taught include, but are not limited to: communication, dependability, initiative, teamwork, decision making and problem solving.
Introduction to Technology
Virtually all modern-day employment positions require a general knowledge of computer technology and applications. Within each internship, youth are introduced to various software programs. The goal is to boost their confidence and competence in learning new computer programs.
